    • Grade 8 - 3:30-4:00 pm

Friday, Oct 2 - NO CLASSES
    • All faculty on campus to set up rooms

    Action Items
    • Who's on campus? If you need to find someone, here is a link to the results of the Google Survey I asked folks to complete by Monday morning. Here is the link to the survey and here are the results MS Faculty Teaching Locations. Everyone will be on campus on Friday to set up classrooms
    • Interested in a monitor? A small group of teachers in LS and US have been using large monitors to see their kids rather than their regular computer screen. The idea for our return is that teachers could have the large monitor to display the faces on Teams of all the students who are online, this would then free up your screen to project items and potentially reduce the distraction for the rest of the class. We can purchase enough screens for everyone, but we would like to start with a trial of 4-5 teachers for the first two weeks and then expand after. The Tech Team will explain more, but if you already know that you are interested in being one of the first in the trial, please let me know.
    • Duties Roster: With a return to campus, we will need to have supervision during snack and lunch. I am currently trying to organize this. Ideally, our plan is that no one covers a duty that has a class directly before AND after the assigned duty. Please look at your schedule and see if there are other issues that I am not aware of and should know as I look at assigning these duties.
    • Please review the Sections Doc as these have now been updated with the changes for A, B, and C. Any issues, please let me know ASAP.
    • Summative Assessments: As you start to assign your first summatives, we want to be able to give families a heads up about what is approaching. One way we have decided to do this is through the Grade Level Blogs. You will find a new tab on the Grade Level Meeting Doc called Units and Assessment. Please add your summatives here so that the Team Leaders can add this information to the blogs. Please see Will's Science example in there already.

Changes to the Week Ahead, Updates, & Reminders
      • Meeting Changes: Please see the changes to this week's meetings listed above. I will send out all-new invites early on Monday. Tuesday's MS Faculty Meeting will be to review the new classroom protocols, the new schedule, and the tech team will also be present (as they will be all day on Friday) to answer questions ready for our start next week.
      • Note that Thursday PM Advisory is a bit different this week: We will do the second Advisory Challenge, but we will also extend our PM Advisory time until 2:30 PM to allow us to review return details with students and give them time to ask additional questions. They will head to Athletics at 2:30 PM.
      •  Room Layouts: Please be aware that Mark, Judy, and I are putting the finishing touches to each room in regards to seating. Almost every room should have 12 desks and chairs, 6ft apart. We will also get tape that will be placed where these desks should stay, in case they get moved. Please note, that to accommodate this spacing, we had to move many teacher desks to the front of the rooms. Sorry!

      Absent Students

      Kudos!
      • I have continued to be impressed by the number of thoughtful and wonderful comments folks are sending via our Sunshine notes. Thank you for all going that extra mile to connect with our kids and their families.
      • The transition back to campus AND teaching online too will be a struggle and require even more from all of you. Thank you in advance for your effort and commitment to this change and our students. I recognize that this is not easy.

Changes to the Week Ahead, Updates, & Reminders
          • Formative Assessments: Just a reminder that we are asking teachers to give students the opportunity to retake, make corrections, or practice these skills again to improve their scores. How we do this might be different, and at this time, I think this is fine. Science and LL have different systems, but if you are still considering what is best for your subject, please connect with the teachers in either subject for ideas, pros and cons.
          • Parent Coffees - These should have been starting this week but we have pushed them back to begin Thursday, September 24 at 6:30pm. This will be for any new to AWS parents and Shelli and I will run this. You do not need to attend next week, but are welcome if you would like!

Our first PD Corner of the year and I want to focus on the upcoming NWAIS Conference, scheduled for October 9th.
                  • This virtual conference (8am - 1:30pm, with an hour lunch break) has as its focus: "Every Student Counts: Assessment for Growth and Equity in the Age of Covid and Beyond."  Beyond the Keynote speech (the title of which is the title of the conference), there are several interesting featured speakers. I encourage you to visit the website here for more detailed information. (I thought about adding it here, but it would get quite long!)
                    • If you are interested in attending the conference, please let me know as soon as possible by completing this form.  If you are unsure, please go ahead and fill out the form as well (and select "I'm not sure yet") - the early bird deadline is September 8th so I'd like to take advantage of that price, if possible, but I want to also know if there are others who just aren't quite ready to commit so I can look at what it might look like for registrations until 9/27.  I will go ahead and register you if you say "yes."
                    • Please note that October 9th will otherwise be given over to collaborative planning, further conversations surrounding incorporating DEI curriculum in our classes, and other divisional needs. We want you to use it to help move your teaching and curriculum forward in a way that feels most appropriate to you.
A reminder that the Professional Development Resource Board on MyAW has links to several potential PD providers and opportunities, and upcoming PD opportunities from some of our regular partners are also highlighted and updated regularly on the PD Opportunities tab on your divisional or overall Faculty & Staff Teams.

One more thing - we know there are a lot of things going on - especially for those of you on campus starting on Monday. Please know that we are all here to help support you. You can continue using the Help Desk ticketing system for any Tech and maintenance support and your regular channels of communication with your Division Directors, of course, but if there's anything else you need in terms of COVID support in the classroom, COVID testing questions, concerns about things you see, etc - whether you just want to let us know or want someone to follow up with you, please feel free to use this form as a "comment box" of sorts. We'll keep an eye on it, and follow up as needed.

Thank you all for all that you do day in and day out, for keeping the kids at the center of what you do, and for the smiles I see every time I see and speak to you all.  I hope you have a restful long weekend.  SFB

                  • While I know you all have a lot on, I would love it if we could lead by example with the Character Strong Dares. Here goes our first one:

                  Absent Students

                  Kudos!
                  • To all our crossover teachers who have been teaching in a hybrid fashion in LS already! As we move to having students back on campus as of Tuesday, know we are thinking about you all and here to help in any way we can. You've Got This!
                  • To Andrea for diligently working with our IAP kids and figuring out a new routine. It hasn't been easy, but it is a delight to see kids back on campus.

                  The Month Ahead
                  • Please see the MS Calendar for now.
