Week Beginning December 16, 2024

Apparently, according to the kids in Search & Rescue, everything tastes better with snow on it!  Hope you are all enjoying HATCHing as much as this bunch!

 ACTION ITEMS

  • Tammy and Trilby subbing all week: Trilby will be with Shelli and Heidi unless otherwise needed. Tammy is floating for now.
  • Visiting Students: If you had one of the visitors in your class this past week, please add your notes to the Committee Review in myAW. Admissions needs your feedback!
  • Student HATCH Reflection: Please look out for this Google Form coming from Kellly for your groups to complete on Friday morning.
  • HATCH Photos & Video: Did you capture any cool moments last week? If so, it would be really helpful if you could upload any of your photos or videos to your HATCH Week folder before the end of the day on Tuesday. More can be added later, but we need everything we can get our hands on for Tuesday evening to make the HATCH intro movie. Here is the link to the main folder.

FYI
  • Effective immediately, Myla Allen has withdrawn from AWS. Please let Ruth or me know if she has any textbooks that need to be returned. We may still complete an end-of-semester report, so please note her criterion scores for your subject so they can be added to a report if needed. However, on Wednesday, Ruth will remove her from class, so please ensure you have this information for your subject before she is removed from Toddle.
  • Missing Assignment Emails: There was an issue with Toddle on Friday, and Ruth could not run the usual report. Once this is fixed, we plan to do so this coming week so families and students know what needs to be completed.
  • Students with Missing Assignments we KNOW need support: A reminder that Jessica will continue to work with the students we know had more than 5 last week. We are tracking who on this Missing Assignment Student Support During HATCH doc if you want to see it. Jessica should be looping in folks if they need her support during the 8:30 - 11:00 am time slot each day this coming week.
  • Games on Thursday: Varsity Basketball and Soccer athletes will need to change into their uniforms during ADVISORY on Thursday and will need to bring their gear down to the Kemper so they can leave right after the Celebration of Learning.

TODDLE TIPS & TRICKS
If you've opened your gradebook today, you've likely noticed that it's gotten a bit of an upgrade. Toddle's new and improved gradebook launched this morning, and they've incorporated several of the feature requests that we have been asking for. This includes icons for the type of assignment, the ability to bulk grade, less clicking into new windows, and clearer visibility on whether or not feedback has been shared with students/families. Here is a quick video tutorial to show how to use these new features. If you have any questions, please reach out to K. Ward.

Week Beginning December 2, 2024

I hope none of you read this until Sunday so that this image is relevant! I also hope the Fall Break brought you good food, good company, and whatever else you needed for this final push in 2024! I remain truly thankful for you all and everything you do for our community.

ACTION ITEMS

  •  HATCH WEEK: Please continue to plan, plan, and plan! As the week progresses, look for more information about room assignments and other bits and bobs. Wednesday's faculty meeting will also be used for HATCH, but we will start as a whole community first.
  • Free Gym Sign Up: A reminder that we start this week during OH. See Tuesday's advisory below for more details.

FYI
  • HATCH WEEK: During Wednesday, students will select which HATCH week they would like to participate in (ranking 1-3) during advisory. We hope to have groups turned around to you all later that week.
  • Great 8 Scholarship: This past Thursday, an email was sent to Grade 8 students and their families regarding how to apply for this scholarship. If students apply, they may ask a teacher to complete a reference. Note that this is much shorter than last year and simply requires checking boxes! Phew!
  • i-Ready at the start of Semester 2: We are considering a few ways to ease the pain of the testing length while still collecting data. As we hear from LS, US, and admissions, more will come on this, but I wanted this on your radar.
  • Push-In Observation: Starting this coming week, I will be in classes observing the Learning Support team. We are assessing the usefulness and impact of how push-in is working. The Learning Support knows which classes I will be in before the winter break, and we may continue this when we return in January. This is not a formal observation of your teaching but rather an informational gathering exercise for the Learning Support team to reflect on. I apologize if my presence in classes causes any disruption.
  • POCC - No Malik or Dimpy: We have one sub covering for Malik and Dimpy when they are out Wednesday through Friday at the POCC. This may mean that not every push-in class Malik would cover will be supported or that Trilby may need more guidance if she is present. Thank you for helping make these three days work. The good news is that another sub is lined up to start in the new year!
  • Student Reduction in Missing Assignments: Thank you to the teachers who reduced the missing assignment list for Colin (8), Andrew (7), Paloma (7), and Rose (7). I have heard from most families that they were grateful for this and will work with their students over the fall break to get caught up on the outstanding assignments. Your help in checking these off once we are back will be crucial. If the assignments are not done and more pile up the week back, we plan to get families in and look at a modified schedule moving forward. Again, more to come on this as we know more.
  • Spirit Week: A big thank you to everyone who dressed up this past week. It was great to see so many of you embracing the spirit! If you have photos, please upload them to Pixevety or let Ruth know if you need help.

TODDLE TIPS & TRICKS
We hope to have several updates during our MS Faculty meeting this week. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please add them to the Toddle Questions Form.
