Week Beginning January 10, 2022


 It was quite the week! Thanks to you all for your support with the student reflections and to the team who ran the CP Day. A big high-five to those who had to cover extra class or adapt work for absent students, as well as though who attended the MS schedule meeting or sent me their ideas. And to EVERY single person connected to MS, THANK YOU for just being present and upbeat! You rock!

Action Items

  • MYP PD: There is a great PD offered by Toddle about a range of different topics related to MS and MYP on March 11-13th. The timing of some of the sessions is a little odd due to it being a world conference, but there are still great offerings AND I believe they will be recorded. If you are interested, please check out this link and let me know in the next couple of weeks. We need to apply through Title II to get this money and there is a group discount.
  • STUDENTS OUT: As we have cases of COVID, any student unvaccinated, or who is not yet fully vaccinated, will need to be out for 7 days and need to test negative to come back to campus. As many of you are finishing units and undertaking summatives, that could become complicated and many students who are out could become overwhelmed. PLEASE consider modifying your summative and workload for those students. If you need help creating an alternative summative, please reach out to Bri, who is very willing to help. 
  • PLANNING FOR 2022-23: Thanks to all who attended the first meeting reflecting on the schedule. We have another opportunity to connect and collaborate on thoughts and ideas.  If you are interested in joining, all are welcome at the MS Faculty Meeting this week. This remains OPTIONAL. 
  • SUMMATIVE CALENDAR: Please add into these calendars any summatives you have coming up, this will help us track our student's progress and ensure no one is totally overwhelmed.

  • MS Faculty Meeting - regular is CANCELLED and replaced with those wishing to discuss ideas for next year's schedule. 3:30-4:15 pm in Amanda's room. Meeting #2 - All welcome

Changes to the Week Ahead, Updates, & Reminders

  • LUNCH LOCATIONS: To be fair and to spread the cold around, we are moving to a rotation of spaces at lunch starting Monday. Grade 8 already knows this is coming and we will announce this in MS Gathering on Monday. 
    • Grade 8 & Wagstaff - Tents
    • Grade 7 & Strate - Bamford Commons: Switched due to 7th being out most of the week
    • Grade 6 & Iwamoto/Wilde - Lunchroom 
  • CANCELLED/POSTPONED: MS School Dance and Journey Family meetings. More information to come.
  • PROSPECTIVE STUDENT PROCEDURES: We have students visiting in person starting the week back to school. Look out for more directions on this and how you can give feedback on applicants. 
  • AIR PURIFIERS in CLASSROOMS: If the red filter light comes on for the air purifier in your classroom space or if you notice one in another MS space (MS Lounge, etc), please let Ruth know so she can arrange to get the filter cleaned by Chuck and his crew. 
  • TODDLE: if you are interested in seeing what Toddle has to offer, please review the documents and videos linked in this folder. 
  • MATH FINALS: The only subject to give formal finals this semester. More will be in the Flash the first week back. 
    • Grade 6 - to occur in regular math class
    • Grade 7 - Friday, Jan 21 - no Study Hall, double block of math instead in the pm.
    • Grade 8 - Thursday, Jan 20 - no CP that day, double block of math instead in the pm.
  • JOURNEY MEETINGS: These have now been postponed. More information to come. 
  • GRADE 8 JOURNEY PREP DAY: Tuesday, Jan 25 - all morning. No Math, PHE, or Design. Ideally, all teachers who are attending the 8th-grade trip would attend. More information to come, but please don't schedule anything that morning.
