MS Faculty Blog: Week Beginning January 23, 2023

A combination of comedy, boat building, and static electricity filled the halls of MS this week! Lots of smiles even with lots of summatives due!

ACTION ITEMS

SECTION CHANGES: On Monday, Jan 23, we will start the day for all with a 5-min advisory so that we can distribute the new schedules with sections in 6 and 7. The new sections can be found on the MS Section Doc. Grade 8 will also do the morning advisory, 8:30-8:35 am.

SUMMATIVE SCORES DUE: Just a reminder that these are due in myAW by the end of Wednesday. Thank you!

Advisor Comments: The strong recommendation is to start to work on these ASAP. Please read down to the example on page 2 and onwards on MS Semester 1 Report Dates & Guidelines 22-23 and review the formatting reminders on page 6.

Student Support Groups: Just following up on Heidi's email - if you know a student that might benefit from working with other similar students on certain key topics, please complete this form so that Heidi can reach out to connect with the student and gauge their interest. The following topics for the groups are:

OPTIONAL DEI Group: Just a reminder that we have moved the weekly meeting to 3:20 pm on a Tuesday now so that this is hopefully open to more folks. No pressure to attend.

Monday, January 23 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TRACEY!

A Day - Second Semester begins
7:30 am AMC Test for students who have elected too. More from Emily.
8:30-8:35: Start the day with 5-minute Advisory to give out the schedules and new sections. Grade 8 to also start this way but can simply touch base.
MS Gathering in the Great Hall - New Common Ground Options + Lunar New Year
Varsity Soccer - early dismissal at 1:45; JV Soccer - early dismissal at 2:45
All School Chapel CANCELLED BUT GRADE 8 STILL MEETING - grade 6 and 7 Advisory Study Hall.

Grade 8 OUT
All Grades should go directly to the Dining Hall for a 2:30 start of our Hot Chocolate and Snowflake Making Social.- Notice the change in location from weeks prior!
Please do not send students to the Dining Hall before 2:25 as we will be setting up the space.
Once they enter, students will immediately find the table with their family number on it.
We will start with an announcement of what the plan is for the social.
Each table will have conversation starters, snowflake making supplies, and hot chocolate packets and cups.
We will call two families up at a time add hot water to their hot chocolate cups.
Faculty with older students please ask your students to help their Littles make their hot chocolates
Supply request from faculty: We are in need of scissors! Please bring your extra supplies to the Dining Hall with your students.
