I had the pleasure of watching parts of some really amazing lessons this week. During one, this piece of amazing art was created by Etta in Art/Design while they watched An ode to living on Earth TED talk by Oliver Jeffers. A big kudos to Heidi for creating space for each kid to express their experience in so many different creative ways.
ACTION ITEMS
- REVERT TO START TIME: The MS Norms document that we update and review at the start of each year, has our start time in MS as 7:30 am, yet the communication from Jake that went out last week states 7:45 am. This is because your first official commitment is the GLMT at that time. Jake has said that our start and end time as a division is flexible within an 8-hour span, but the entire division does need to be in unison. Because the start time has been officially published as 7:30 am in our Norms document for 3-years, it seems only fair and appropriate to stick to this time and revert to the official end time as 3:30 pm, in alignment with Lower School and what we have traditionally done. Of course, life happens! I am grateful for the folks who have kept me looped in this week about sick pets, bad traffic, and medical appointments that have caused necessary wiggle room in these times. Please remember, you can text me at any time (716 866 9699) if you have an issue or if you will be late to GLMT in the morning. If you see an problem with us reverting to this time, please let me know. I trust you all COMPLETELY to do what is needed to support our kiddos and to find balance with your life outside of school. And I truly value all you give to be being part of our MS Team, in and out of the official work day. Thank you.
- 30-MIN CHECK-IN WITH CLARE: If you haven't yet, please connect with Ruth about a time slot that works for you to check in with me to reflect on the start of the year, the year ahead, and any PD you may be interested in exploring. The PD Bingo chart is a good place to start and hopefully stimulate ideas!
- STUDENT REFLECTIONS: You will be asked for your feedback on how week one went at the MS Faculty meeting this week. Any changes needed? How was this received? Is it achieving the goal?
- GRADE 6 ADVISORS ONLY: Please join us in the Commons during your grade level’s House Social rotation during All School Chapel this week. Assistance with reminding our students to be thoughtful and inclusive community members is appreciated. Each Yellow tie student should receive a cutout of a yellow house with their name one it from their classroom teacher/advisor prior to Chapel time. This House cutout will also include their House family number (#1-30 that we will refer to as their “address”). Students will then be asked to find the other students in their same address number to meet their House families of 5-7 students and sign the back of one another’s cards. Please note that each House family includes at least 1 member from each Division. Once they have found their families, our ELC team will lead the House through a number of introductory activities. At the end of the House’s Social time together, Upper School students will be asked to walk their Lower School “littles” (younger students) back to their classrooms. This will enable our “bigs” (older students) to come back to your classroom to pick-up their littles for future House Socials.
