Week Beginning September 1, 2025

Thank you all for another great MS Orientation! The kids clearly had a great experience, thanks in part to a bit of sunshine, but it was primarily due to all your hard work and positive attitude, which made it something really special! Rest up and see you all on Tuesday.

ACTION ITEMS

  • Check-in Appointment with Clare: Please schedule a 15-20 minute appointment to discuss your upcoming year's PD needs and review your course reflection from the previous year. Thank you to all of you who have already scheduled this!
  • i-Ready Testing: This will occur next Wednesday and Thursday. Please review the testing calendar and your role on the MS Schedule doc and the i-Ready tab.
  • Review the IAP Snapshot: All teachers must be aware of their students' accommodations and ensure that they are offered them. Any questions? Please reach out to Andrea and her team.
  • No Homework: A reminder from the Q1 calendar - just as last year, no homework should be assigned on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
  • Journals: For Grade 6 and 7 advisories, as requested, are in the MS Office for collection.
  • Field Trips: We have a budget for field trips in the MS, but I want to ensure that it is fairly distributed and not just spent on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are aware of a field trip you are interested in taking a class on, please let me know ASAP. The basic information I need is the location, number of students, cost, and date. I would love to make a decision on how to provisionally spend this budget by September 17. Got ideas? Please let me know before then (this does not include HATCH field trips, as they come out of a different budget).
  • Edpuzzle: We have access to Edpuzzle for this school year, but due to the extremely high cost, we will likely not purchase it for the 2026-2027 school year. If you are using it this year, please take the time to consider other options as the year progresses. I don't want to catch anyone off guard next fall if we do not renew the contract. Sorry and thank you.

FYI
  • Welcome to Beau: Our newest member of the team will be starting on Tuesday! Please welcome Beau Xzamora Negrete. They will go by Indi. Beau to the students.
  • Extra Support Classes: These will begin for i-Ready Support and Spanish Support on Monday, September 15.
  • Welcome calls to Advisory families: A reminder that Advisors will be asked to call families to introduce themselves between September 9 and before you leave on Friday, September 12. Individual households should receive a separate call. Here is the link to directions if you would like to review the content for the calls. The GLTLs will send a general introduction email to all families this week. This will be an Action Item next week.
  • Laptops: New students in 7th and 8th grade will not receive laptops until Tuesday, September 2, during Office Hours. Sorry for the delay, A Day classes!
  • From ELC 3: Hello again from Carie, Dave, Emily L, and Jamie P!! As we mentioned at the opening meeting, we are launching Teaching Practice and Reflection groups to help build community across divisions and departments as well as provide a space for reflection and sharing of teaching practices. Sessions will be 30-45 minutes, snacks will be provided, and you will not have to prepare anything ahead of time. We hope that participants will attend all meetings and understand that some colleagues (such as those in Working Groups) may have to miss the occasional meeting. Planned meeting dates are:

    • September 15
    • October 6
    • November 24 (lunch meeting during in-service)
    • December 15
    • January 26
    • March 9
    • May 4

If you’d like to join a Teaching Practice and Reflection Group, please email Carie Ward (carie_ward@aw.org) or complete this survey.
